Basic Education Leads Career Expo Day to Empower Learners in Mpumalanga

Daggakraal: Basic Education Deputy Minister Dr. Reginah Mhaule is spearheading a comprehensive Career Expo Day in Daggakraal, Mpumalanga to celebrate Freedom Month and Schools Democracy Month. The event, which is taking place at the Spamplek Sports Ground in the Gert Sibande District, marks the inaugural gathering aimed at exposing learners to a wide range of career opportunities.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has launched this initiative in response to requests from multiple entities concerned with the interests of learners and community development. The event aligns with President Cyril Ramaphosa's call during the 2026 Basic Education Lekgotla for more career expos to be conducted by the department.

The Career Expo Day is designed to introduce learners to diverse career paths, entrepreneurship, and small business development opportunities within South Africa. It aims to equip local institutions like School Governing Bodies (SGBs), School Management Teams (SMTs), and other stakeholders with the necessary resources to support learners effectively.

The DBE will collaborate with various government departments and stakeholders to provide services and career awareness activities. Each department involved will contribute to advancing child welfare and addressing skills requirements in technology and AI.

Additionally, the expo will highlight entrepreneurship as a viable career option, encouraging learners to create jobs and economic opportunities in their communities, aligning with national development goals. Participating departments include the South African Police Service, The Presidency, and others, alongside entities such as the Independent Electoral Commission and the National Youth Development Agency.
