Pretoria:According to South African Government News Agency, communities have been encouraged to keep track of warnings from the South African Weather Service (SAWS) due to severe weather conditions affecting the country.
The Cabinet has emphasized the importance of following guidance from disaster management authorities, especially in areas prone to flooding, strong winds, hail, and other hazardous conditions. The government is actively monitoring the severe weather across the nation.
The statement highlighted the impact of climate change, noting an increase in the frequency and intensity of such weather events. Provincial and municipal authorities are advised to remain vigilant, enhance preparedness measures, and ensure that emergency response plans are activated as needed.
SAWS has issued warnings about severe thunderstorms that could lead to heavy downpours, strong winds, hail, and excessive lightning. These conditions may potentially cause localized damage to settlements and infrastructure in North West, Gauteng, the Mpumalanga Highveld, southwestern Limpopo, the northern Free State, and the far northeastern parts of the Northern Cape.
