Community partnerships enhanced through awareness programmes

GQEBERHA – In a continued effort to stamp out criminality and enhance police relations with various stakeholders with our communities, it is important to showcase the strength of law enforcement within our neighbourhoods.

On Saturday, 10 September 2022, SAPS Kabega Park teamed together with various private security companies, emergency services and the Sherwood Neighbourhood Watch in a crime awareness day. Community members came out in numbers to the Sherwood Spar shopping centre to interact with police and security officials at their various stalls. The objective behind this initiative is to partner with business and private security to play a role in the fight against crime.

Private security companies vastly assist the SAPS in tracing and tracking suspicious vehicles through their advanced camera system.

Such initiatives not only build partnerships but also sends out a strong message to criminals that their actions will not been given a chance to flourish as we all work together in strengthening our resources with an ultimate goal of defeating the scourge of crime. Community members are important stakeholders in the fight against crime.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata encouraged such partnerships and added that, “These force multipliers enhances visibility in all hotspot areas and the presence of SAPS, neighbourhood watches and private security definitely impacts positively in ensuring that the citizens of NMB are and feel safe.”
