Manhunt Launched for Suspects in Temba Police Officer Murder

Temba: A manhunt has been launched for three suspects in connection with the killing of a 33-year-old police official in Temba on Friday, 12 September 2025. The constable, who was stationed at SAPS Temba Crime Prevention Unit, was killed during a shootout with suspects in Chris Hani section, Block G.

According to South African Police Service, it is reported that the police officials were patrolling the area when they noticed a suspicious vehicle, a white VW Polo. When the police approached the suspects, a shootout ensued, and the police official was fatally injured. The suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot into the nearby bushes.

The station management as well as Employee Health and Wellness has arranged that the family and colleagues of the member are afforded the necessary psychosocial support.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, extends his sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased member. 'On Sunday the 14th of September, we will as a province, be commemorating four of our officials who were killed in the line of duty. It is disheartening that we will be doing so with this incident still fresh on our minds. Serving as a reminder that we are under attack from criminals. We will not be deterred, we will carry on the fight against the scourge of police killings and crime in this province,' said Lt Gen Mthombeni.
