Northern Cape Launches Operation Vala Zonke to Enhance Road Infrastructure

Kimberley: Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, has launched Operation Vala Zonke Pothole Patching and Road Maintenance Programme along with the province's R98 million Yellow Fleet at the Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Premier was accompanied by provincial MEC for Roads and Public Works Fufe Makatong, Frances Baard District Municipality Executive Mayor Wende Marekwa, and the Executive Mayor of Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, Martha Bartlett. The Yellow Fleet consists of bright yellow machines, including graders, pavers, trucks, and other road maintenance equipment designed to enable maintenance teams to work more efficiently.

The pothole patching and road maintenance effort will be carried out over a three-month period across all wards of Sol Plaatje Municipality. Meanwhile, the cleaning programme will be ongoing, aiming to boost service delivery and encourage civic pride. This initiative is part of the provincial government's strategy to improve road infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and strengthen municipal service delivery through Operation Vala Zonke and Rooting Out the Dust programmes.

Additionally, the project marks a significant step in transforming Sol Plaatje Municipality into a modern, clean, functional, and economically vibrant city. During the launch, Premier Saul highlighted the government's dedication to addressing infrastructure backlogs, enhancing residents' quality of life, and rebuilding public trust through visible and practical service delivery measures.

The programme illustrates the benefits of cooperative governance, as provincial and local governments collaborate to bring tangible improvements to communities in Kimberley, Galeshewe, Roodepan, and surrounding areas.
