Pienaar: Police in Pienaar have launched an investigation following a shooting incident that occurred at the residence of a local ward councillor in the Oggo area of Pienaar during the early hours of Saturday, 31 May 2025, at approximately 01:00.
According to South African Police Service, the complainant was asleep with his family when he heard multiple gunshots being fired at his house. The bullets reportedly struck the garage door, passed through the passage, and entered the bedroom through a window.
The complainant then quietly moved from his bedroom to check on his children in a separate room to ensure their safety. He also switched off all the lights in the house. At that point, the shooting stopped, and the suspects fled the scene on foot.
After the incident, the complainant went outside and discovered that his vehicle had been damaged by gunfire. Additional damage was found on the garage door, inside the passage, and on the bathroom windows. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The motive for the attack remains unknown at this stage.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects to contact the Investigating Officer, Captain Sabelo Mnguni, on 082 469 1956. Alternatively, tip-offs can be submitted anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or through the MYSAPS App. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality, and callers may choose to remain anonymous.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned the incident and assured the community that the SAPS will work tirelessly to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
