Alberton: The Executive Mayor of Sedibeng and her driver were safely reunited with their families following a kidnapping and hijacking incident. The incident occurred as they were leaving a residence in Alberton on 30 May 2025.
According to South African Police Service, the situation unfolded when the homeowner, whose house the Mayor had visited, reported the kidnapping and hijacking to an associate. This associate promptly informed the Mayor’s husband, who then reported the crime at the Dawnpark Police Station.
In response, a special team was assembled, and the Police’s Rapid Response Services broadcast a lookout for the vehicle involved via the 10111 call centre. The vehicle was subsequently located around midnight in Dawnpark by officials from the Katlehong police department. By approximately 02:00, reports confirmed that both the Mayor and her driver were found unharmed.
Police investigations are ongoing, with the investigating officer set to take formal statements from both victims. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects involved in this incident.
