Two men in court for dealing in steroids

WESTERN CAPE – Christiaan Jacobus Roode (38), a Shop owner handed himself over this morning following the arrest of Jean Stemmet (24) on Monday, 26 September 2022.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team swooped on the 24-year-old Stemmet yesterday in the Strand area, Cape Town. He was subsequently charged for contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.

An authorised search warrant was executed at the said store following information received about a business owner who was selling medicine from his shop. This resulted to an intelligence operation which established that the shop owner did not have valid documents for the medicine.

During the search, numerous steroids worth an undisclosed amount were found together with an undisclosed cash amount suspected to be proceeds of crime, were all seized for further investigation.

The duo was released on R5000 and R10 000 respectively when they appeared in the Strand Magistrates court today and the matter was remanded to the 31 October 2022.
