Tweefontein: Police in Tweefontein arrested a suspect for truckjacking at a bakery in the early hours of Saturday morning, 24 May 2025 at about 05:40.
According to South African Police Service, the bakery driver alleged that in the early hours of today, he was delivering bread at a certain general dealer. He just got out of the truck to offload the bread when he was approached by two men who were hiding behind the truck. As the driver attempted to step back, the suspects ordered him to get inside the truck, and he was locked with the bread in the back of the truck.
The suspects drove around and stopped at a few shops selling and delivering bread. The truck came to a standstill at the main road Gemsbokspruit next to a cr¨che, when one of the suspects came to open the back door of the truck for the complainant. The driver was reportedly ordered to get out, and both suspects alighted from the truck and tried to board a taxi. They took an amount of R470 from the complainant, his cellphone, and the driver’s license. The suspects reportedly fled the scene however, with the help of the community, one of the suspects was swiftly arrested, and the truck recovered.
The suspect is expected to appear before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate court on Monday, 26 May 2025.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has thanked the community for assisting the police in fighting crime and advised them not to take the law into their own hands.
