Several suspects arrested and drugs, firearms and ammunition taken of the streets

Police members mandate to create a safe environment in all communities yielded positive results when they arrested several suspects in the Western Cape.

On Thursday, 29 September 2022, Operation Lockdown members received information while patrolling in Khayelitsha on foot. They made their way to an address in Mninawa Street and found a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition and seven rounds were hidden under a bed. A 43-year-old male was arrested and charged for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is due to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court on Monday, 3 October 2022 on the mentioned charges.

Operation Vutha Hawe, an initiative by our detectives to trace wanted suspects resulted in the arrest of 539 individuals who were sought for serious offences such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, assault, burglary and domestic violence. Operation Hawe is an ongoing initiative where inroads are being made to apprehend and charge wanted suspects.

In addition to the above, Operation Restore, and other SAPS related initiatives led to the seizure of 30 firearms, 424 rounds of ammunition, 1795 mandrax tablets, 725 estacy tablets, 1020grams crystal meth, 19147grams dagga.

SAPS Mount Road arrest alleged housebreaking suspects

Gqeberha:  SAPS Mount Road with the assistance from the community arrested two suspects on charges of housebreaking and theft on Saturday 1 October 2022.

It is alleged that on Saturday at approximately 09:30, SAPS Mount Road members attended to a complaint of housebreaking in Elm Street, Steylerville Township. The information relating to the house breaking were circulated on a community group and patrollers in the area visited a second hand shop to make enquiries. While at the shop, two suspects entered the premises with property they wanted to sell.  The patrollers noticed that the property could be the same as the property that was stolen in the housebreaking case.  The SAPS Mount Road vehicle returned to the complainant and he identified his property.  Both suspects were detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

On the same day at approximately 11:50, SAPS Mount Road attended to another complaint in Pretorius Street, Parsonshill of another house breaking at a guest house.  The complainant alleged that she unlocked the front door and later she heard that the door was opened and shortly afterwards it was closed again. She went to investigate when she saw the one suspect walking out of the yard carrying something. Upon further investigation she noticed that a TV and laptop was taken.  She provided the members with a description of the suspect.

While at Mount Road police station, the members were busy with the registration of the case docket when they noticed that the one suspect that the members were busy processing for the house breaking in Elm Street, fitted the description of the suspect involved in the housebreaking at Pretorius Street.

The 19 year old suspect was also detained on the housebreaking case in Pretorius Street and for possession of suspected stolen property in Elm Street, the second suspect aged 23 were detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Both suspects will appear at the Gqeberha Magistrates’ Court on Monday 3 October 2022.

Collaboration between Crime Intelligence and Benoni Flying Squad leads to the arrest of five suspects and recovery of three unlicensed firearms

On Saturday, 01 October 2022 members of Crime Intelligence and Benoni Flying Squad arrested five alleged business robbers, aged between 22 and 36 years, and recovered three unlicensed firearms in Kempton Park.

A preliminary report suggests Crime Intelligence obtained information on a possible robbery to take place in Kempton Park and immediately activated Benoni Flying Squad members on strategic positions in the area.

The suspects were driving along Monument Road towards Kempton Park CBD when their vehicle was tactically intercepted by the SAPS members.

The members conducted a search which resulted in the recovery of three unlicensed firearms.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ court soon.
